Photographs showing the Wisconsin State Prison at Waupun, dating from ca. 1898. Images in PH 868 date as early as 1905 and show outside wall arches, gardens, a cell block, women convicts, the mess hall, twine factory, warden's residence, baseball field, other buildings, and lines of convicts. Images in PH 2077 date ca. 1898 and include views of the buildings, gate, interior of a cell block, a baseball game in the prison yard, women working in the garden, construction work, and the prison orchestra.

The Wisconsin State Prison at Waupun was opened in July 1851. It was under the jurisdiction of the State Board of Supervisors (WIHV87-A1267) in 1881, then the State Board of Control (WIHV85-A2106) in 1891. Until the opening of the Women's Prison at Taycheedah (see WIHV88-A50) in 1933, it served as a maximum security facility for both men and women and since then for men only.
